Looking for Love: The Films of Ira Sachs

August 25–September 4, 2012

The romantic dramas of independent filmmaker Ira Sachs are at once deeply specific, rooted in precisely observed places and times, and universal, dealing with the most elemental aspects of love and desire. Raised in Memphis and now a New Yorker, Sachs is a writer/director who has also become a driving force in the New York film world, as the founder and co-curator of the monthly series Queer/Art/Film and as a teacher at New York University. Keep the Lights On is at once an authentic, detailed chronicle of New York City around the turn of the 21st century, and the most vulnerable and emotionally intense personal narrative in Sachs’s increasingly impressive body of work. Its eagerly awaited release by Music Box Films marks the perfect occasion for his first major retrospective in New York.

Ira Sachs will appear in person for a Q&A after each screening.
