In the movie Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, adapted by Jesse Andrews for the screen from his own novel, the teen protagonist Greg and his “co-worker” Earl remake classic movies and share them with Rachel, who has leukemia. As Greg explains, “we take a film we like. Give it a stupider title and make a new film to reflect the new title. It's a formula that only produces horrible films, but for some reason we keep using it."
