Screening & Live Event
Writing In Treatment with Yael Hedaya in person
Presented in collaboration with the PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature.
Join us for a memorable evening of discussion and therapy, as acclaimed Israeli novelist Yael Hedaya (Eden, Accidents: A Novel) goes on the couch to talk about her key role in the writing of the Israeli television series Be-tipul (In Treatment), which was the basis for the popular HBO show. Hedaya wrote the character Na’Ama Lerner (Laura in the American version), the beautiful young woman who tries to seduce her doctor. In a mock therapy session moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz, Hedaya will discuss the creation and development of In Treatment, the exploration of therapy and relationships in her novels, stories, and screenplays, and the connections between her work and her life. Her latest novel, Eden, which includes a teenage girl named Roni who sleeps with middle-aged men, has been described as “a psychologically astute Israeli version of American Beauty.” As part of this special program, a complete episode of Be-tipul will be screened, followed by the conversation/therapy session with Hedaya.
$15 public / $10 Museum members and PEN Festival attendees. Call 718 777 6800 to purchase tickets, or order online. Advance online sales will be available until noon on the day of the event. Following this, tickets will be available at the door.
