Screening of Serpico in Honor of Sidney Lumet (1924–2011)
Sunday, May 29, 2011, 7:00 p.m.
Dir. Sidney Lumet. 1973, 130 mins.
35mm print. With Al Pacino. Serpico, with Al Pacino as the idealist eccentric cop who exposed police corruption may be the quintessential Sidney Lumet film. A gritty blend of urban realism and character study, it is also a great New York City film that makes expressive use of locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens. In addition to being a great New York filmmaker, Lumet revitalized the Astoria Studios in the 1970s, and was Museum of the Moving Image’s first Salute honoree, in 1985.
Free with Museum admission.
