SPECIAL PROGRAM
Children and Television: An Evening with Joan Ganz Cooney
Moderated by Lesley Stahl, CBS reporter, 60 Minutes
As co-founder of the Children’s Television Workshop (now Sesame Workshop), “the single largest teacher of young children in the world,” and the originator of Sesame Street, Joan Ganz Cooney is a television pioneer whose work has had enormous influence in the world of education and entertainment.
One of the first television shows with a multicultural cast, Sesame Street used fast-paced editing, a variety of formats, great characters, and Jim Henson’s Muppets to engage young children. Cooney will discuss her remarkable career, and talk about her current work with the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, which is dedicated to advancing children’s learning in the digital age.
