IndieCade East: Ongoing Programs

Part of IndieCade East
Friday, February 15, 2013, All Day

IndieCade, the country's premier independent video game festival, makes its East Coast debut at the Museum, with a weekend of playable games, presentations, game jams, and more. View full schedule for program and ticket information.

IndieCade East Game Showcase
Throughout the festival, IndieCade East presents a playable showcase of 20 independent games: finalists, nominees, and submissions from IndieCade 2012 that highlight the best of independent game design. From digital to physical, multiplayer to single player, active to meditative, playful to serious, the selected games celebrate the full range of innovation and artistry in independent game design today. (Suitable for ages 6+).

Game Jam
Hosted by Sony Playstation
Watch video games being made live during the festival-long game jam. Invited participants work day-and-night throughout the festival to create a game, culminating in a presentation and awards ceremony on Sunday, February 17 at 7:00 p.m.

Show and Tell Lounge
Hosted by Ouya
Check out the newest independent games from the IndieCade community. Throughout the festival, game makers present their games for feedback, talk about their inspirations, and discuss how they made their games. Sign-up to present your game on Friday, February 15. (Saturday and Sunday only)

Spacewar! Decathlon
Hosted by The School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design
Get back to basics and show off your old-school shooting skills in the Spacewar! Decathlon, a ten-game tournament in the Museum's video game exhibition Spacewar! Video Games Blast Off. Prove your mastery of arcade classics like Asteroids and Tempest for a chance to play the championship game of Spacewar! on a working PDP-1 model. Turn in your score sheets by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 in Spacewar! Video Games Blast Off; the final competition begins at 2:00 p.m.

New Platforms
Test out new game platforms, including wearable virtual reality technology Oculus Rift, physical video tile system Sifteo, and the new Android-powered game console Ouya.

Let's Play Independent Games
Let's Play videos emerged in 2007 as a popular way of sharing gameplay experiences online. Let's Play creators record videos of themselves completing games while narrating the process. For IndieCade East, Mike Sawyer—arguably the inventor of the Let's Play video—will organize a selection of videos chosen by members of the online forum Something Awful Let's Play. (Saturday and Sunday only)

A full festival pass, allowing the holder admission to all IndieCade events, is available for $80 public / $60 students/seniors/Museum members. Free admission for Silver Screen members and above. Children ages 13+ and students are eligible for student level passes with valid ID. IndieCade East access for children 3–12 included with regular Museum admission ($6). In addition to being able to see IndieCade East games, talks, and events, pass holders will be given tokens to play the arcade games in Spacewar! Video Games Blast Off.
