Dir. Brian DePalma. 2013, 102 mins. DCP courtesy of eOne Films. With Rachel McAdams, Noomi Rapace. In one of his most playfully inventive and stylish films in years, Brian DePalma remakes French director Alain Corneau’s 2010 film Love Crime, as a reflexive, witty, erotic tale of female competition in the advertising world. Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) plays the young assistant whose ideas are stolen by her mentor, a ruthless executive played by Rachel McAdams. Ed Gonzalez writes in Slant: “Passion is a serpentine, gorgeously orchestrated gathering of all of DePalma's pet themes and conceits, a symphony of giddy terror where people perpetually hide behind masks, both literal and figurative, hallucinations are nested in dreams, and images within images become tools of aggression, all set to a remarkable Pino Donaggio score that's one part Max Steiner, two parts Bernard Herrmann.”
Tickets: $12 / free for Museum members.
