SCREENING
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Friday, May 1, 2015, 6:00 p.m.
Dir. Peter Jackson. 2001, 208 min (extended version). With Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom. Ordinary hobbit Frodo Baggins, encouraged by wizard Gandalf the Grey, embarks on a dangerous quest to destroy the powerful "ring to rule them all" and build an alliance to save Middle Earth from the evil Lord Sauron in the first installment of Peter Jackson’s mammoth adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's classic trilogy. Jackson’s films achieved the seemingly impossible, doing justice to one of the 20th century's great works of literary fantasy while also creating a big-screen spectacle for the 21st century.
