The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Sunday, May 3, 2015, 5:00 p.m.
Dir. Peter Jackson. 2002, 223 min (extended version). With Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortenson. The journey grows more perilous for Frodo and the fellowship as they get ever closer to Mordor, the region ruled by the dark lord Sauron. Highlights of this astonishing second part of the Lord of the Rings saga include the introduction of the shifty, covetous Gollum (performed by Andy Serkis in a brilliant motion-capture performance); the tree people known as the Ents, with Ray Harryhausen–inspired designs; and the intricate and overwhelming climactic battle of Helm’s Deep.
