Out of Africa
Dir. Sydney Pollack 1985, 161 mins. 35mm. With Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Klaus Maria Brandauer. Karen von Blixen-Finecke’s (a.k.a Isak Dinesen) memoir of her life in British East Africa in the early 20th century comes to life through Streep's exceptional performance as an aristocrat who runs a coffee plantation. She reinvents herself after her marriage falls apart and meets a free-spirited hunter (played by Robert Redford).
