Salute Honoree Screening
Reds
Presented in conjunction with the Museum’s gala Salute to Warren Beatty
Dir. Warren Beatty. 1981, 195 mins (plus intermission). 35mm. With Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Maureen Stapleton, Edward Herrmann. Warren Beatty won the Academy Award for Best Director for this audacious and beautifully crafted movie about the Communism-obsessed American journalist John Reed, who is caught up in the heady excitement of the Russian Revolution. Reds is one of the last major epics made in the classic Hollywood mold, and a rare blend of politics, ideas, and an old-fashioned love story. The film’s grand scale never overwhelms the even-grander human passions at the heart of this superb production, featuring one of Keaton’s best performances as journalist Louise Bryant. This screening is presented in conjunction with the Museum of the Moving Image’s gala Salute to Warren Beatty, which takes place on Wednesday, November 2, 2016.
