Dir. Spike Lee. 1994, 115 mins. Digital projection. With Alfred Woodard, Delroy Lindo. Written by Spike Lee with his brother and sister Cinqué Lee and Joie Lee, this vibrant and highly personal film unfolds from the viewpoint of a nine-year-old girl who lives in Bedford-Stuyvesant with her parents and four older brothers. It's a slice-of-life 1970s period piece with boldly lyrical photography by Arthur Jafa (Daughters of the Dust). Kids get in trouble, parents try to make ends-meet, and everyone in the neighborhood gets in the way.

The Museum is pleased to be a part of the “ONE FILM, ONE NEW YORK” campaign, organized by The Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment and The New York Times to get New York City to unite around one great film. Crooklyn was among five great films—all shot in New York City—selected by Times chief film critics A.O. Scott and Manohla Dargis. This film will also be shown at theaters around the city and in public parks! The other nominees were: On the Town, starring Gene Kelly; New York, New York, with Robert De Niro and Liza Minelli; Desperately Seeking Susan starring Madonna; and The Wedding Banquet, directed by Ang Lee.
