This committed and fearless work of observational cinema introduces us to Colonel Honorine Manyole, commonly known as "Mama Colonel," who works for the Congolese police force and heads the unit for the protection of minors and the fight against sexual violence. Having worked for 15 years in Bukavu, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, she is suddenly transferred to the inland region of Kisangani, where a whole new set of challenges await. Despite paranoid, paternalistic customs, an inadequately trained police force, and the gaping, unhealed wounds of war, Manyole fights tenaciously on behalf of justice and a better society. Without aid of interviews or voice-over, Hamadi immerses us in the lives of Manyole and the women and children whose futures hang in the balance. Winner of the Grand Prize at the 2017 Cinema du Reel Film Festival, and Jury Prize winner at the 2017 Berlinale Film Festival.
