An Evening with Dan Rather and Get Me Roger Stone
Museum of the Moving Image–Redstone Theater
“[Get Me Roger Stone is] eerily insightful, provocative, infuriating, and enlightening. In an age when almost nothing seems to make sense, trying to come to terms with Stone helps explain the chaos."—Dan Rather
Journalist and network news anchor Dan Rather is a living legend in broadcast news, with an unparalleled career that stretches from his days as a Dallas reporter who covered the JFK assassination in 1963 to his decades as the anchor of CBS Evening News throughout the 1980s and 1990s. He has continued to reach a wide audience through various outlets, and has become a firebrand presence on Facebook throughout the Trump presidency. Dan Rather will participate in a discussion following a screening of the riveting and timely documentary Get Me Roger Stone (2017, 95 mins. Dirs. Morgan Pehme, Daniel DiMauro, Dylan Bank). A friend and adviser to Donald Trump, Roger Stone is a political operative whose notorious career dates back to his “dirty tricks” for the Richard Nixon campaign in 1972. Stone has been called a “malevolent Forrest Gump,” and this alternately entertaining, candid, and shocking documentary reveals Stone as a key force in the rise of the right wing in American politics who may very well be responsible for the current president’s rise to power. Expect an informed and lively discussion with Rather and the film’s directors after the screening.
