Introduced by film scholar David Bordwell
Dir. Otto Preminger. 1944, 88 mins. 35mm. With Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb. This haunting adaptation of Vera Caspary’s tale of two men’s obsession with an ethereal woman became one of the most influential films of the era. Its ambience is enhanced by unsettling flashbacks, voice-over, and David Raksin’s memorable score. David Lynch’s original Twin Peaks series paid homage in the names of Laura Palmer and the mynah bird Waldo.
