Museum of the Moving Image - Redstone Theater
Dir. Preston Sturges. 1948, 105 min. DCP. With Rex Harrison, Linda Darnell, Rudy Vallee. One of Sturges’s lesser-known comedies, this is a quintessentially 1940s piece of bold storytelling. While conducting a concert, a jealous husband plots alternative ways for getting rid of his wife. A virtuoso example of image/sound synchronization, the film pitilessly mocks the artistic temperament and male vanity. In its final cadenza of absurd mishaps, Sturges’s sound gags come straight out of Warner Bros. cartoons.
