A converation with Steve James and special guests Vera, Jill, Heather, and Chanterelle Sung (from Abacus: Small Enough to Jail)
Twenty-three years after his masterpiece Hoop Dreams was inexplicably neglected by the documentary branch of the Academy Awards, great American filmmaker Steve James was finally rewarded this year with a Best Documentary nomination for his New York–set David and Goliath tale, Abacus: Small Enough to Jail. In this career-spanning talk with Chief Curator David Schwartz, James will discuss his methodology and various modes, from revealing profiles such as Life Itself, No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson, and the recent film, to group portrait, durational epics such as Hoop Dreams and The Interrupters, and his upcoming ten-part series, America To Me. Special guests to be announced. Program duration: approximately 90 mins.
Tickets: $15 ($11 seniors and students / $7 youth (ages 3–17) / free for children under 3 and Museum members at the Film Lover and Kids Premium levels and above). Order tickets online. (Members may contact [email protected] with questions regarding online reservations.)
