With director Eddie Bailey in person
Dir. Eddie Bailey. 2018, 73 mins. New York premiere. The directorial debut from filmmaker and Memphis native Eddie Bailey, Memphis Majic is an insightful documentary about a Memphis street dance called jookin. The film features interviews with jookers Lil Buck, Trill V, Daniel Price, G Nerd, and Ladia Yates; Justin Merrick, former artistic director of the Stax Music Academy; and members of the clergy including Pastor Earle Fisher of Abyssinian Missionary Baptist Church. The film also provides a not well known historical context for the people and city of Memphis that gave birth to this art form. View trailer
