Shirley MacLaine is heart-rending as a down-and-out dance girl for hire dreaming of a better life. Highlights include Edith Head’s tassels and glitter; Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields’ top-tapping songs, including “If They Could See Me Now”; and the absolutely perfect choreography, including one of the greatest of all Fosse numbers, “Hey, Big Spender.”
