Documentation of: Hole in Space (Dirs. Kit Galloway, Sherrie Rabinowitz. 1980, 30 mins. Digital projection.)
God’s Angry Man (Dir. Werner Herzog. 1981, 43 mins. Digital projection.)
In 1980, artists Kit Galloway and Sherrie Rabinowitz installed two military-grade cameras: one at Lincoln Center and one at an open air shopping mall in Century City. Unsuspecting passers-by suddenly found themselves encountering a “Hole in Space,” between New York and Los Angeles, making for sweet encounters and tearful reunions as news spread of this portal between coasts. This collection of short and mid-length films explores the dissemination of language and seductive transmissions outside the film industry. In Alee People’s Non-Stop Beautiful Women, expect radio pollution, animatronic female billboards, and gutted signage—an essay of leftovers. The program’s final film, Werner Herzog’s God’s Angry Man, features television pastor Gene Scott recording his regional TV show Festival of Faith.—Courtney Stephens
