Join us at the Museum after hours for a special screening of this Long Island City video art festival with a reception and live discussion with founder and curator Antonio Ortuño.

Under the Subway Video Art Night was founded in 2011 in Queens, as a project incubated at Local Project art space in Long Island City. An open platform for video art, Under the Subway Video Art Night began with one open air screening under the subway train near the historic 5 Pointz art building, where many artists from around the world conducted workshops and rented studios. The festival grew to include simultaneous screenings in art spaces around the world during the month of June, both indoors and outdoors.

This year's 9th edition of the program will be screened at MoMI on June 7, as well as at art spaces around the world during the month of June, including: El Más Acá Club Cultural Asociación in Buenos Aires, the Open Air Art Movie Cinema in Düsseldorf, Genalguacil Pueblo Museo in Málaga, ArtSpace in Mexico City, the JCC Harlem in New York City, Atelier Sanitário in Rio de Janeiro, and Convent Carmen in Valencia. Guests can also explore current exhibitions, including A Whole Different Ball Game, which features 40+ playable sports video games; The Jim Henson Exhibition; and more! Complimentary snacks will be available.

The evening’s program includes:
Live discussion with Curator and Founder Antonio Ortuño. Learn about the history and founding of this unique video art festival, a local gem in Long Island City. Charismatic artist, curator, and founder Ortuño will share highlights from the past nine years, and offer tips for anyone interested in starting their own local film and video art festival.

Sixty-minute screening of the 9th edition of the Under the Subway Video Art Night, featuring over 20 original short works from artists from around the world and Queens, in the Video Screening Amphitheater.
