MoMI’s celebration of Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary begins with a special double feature of the first two Sesame Street feature films. Muppet performer Stephanie D’Abruzzo (Grouchland’s Grizzy) will join series curator and host Craig Shemin as a special guest. Join the two for twice the fun, surprises, and prizes for lucky audience members.
Sesame Street Presents: Follow that Bird
Dir. Ken Kwapis. 1985, 88 mins. DCP. With Caroll Spinney, Jim Henson, Frank Oz. Big Bird (performed by Carol Spinney) made his big-screen debut 30 years ago in Sesame Street Presents: Follow that Bird. Featuring a cast of Sesame Street regulars as well as a star-studded array of cameo guests including Chevy Chase, John Candy, and Waylon Jennings, the movie follows Big Bird's journey back to Sesame Street after a well-intentioned social worker places him within a family of birds, far away from his friends.
The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland
Dir. Gary Halvorson. 1999. 73 mins. 35mm. With Kevin Clash, Mandy Patinkin, Vanessa Williams. Big Bird will be followed by Elmo in a special 20th Anniversary presentation of The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. The little red monster must brave the perils of Grouchland to face off against evil Huxley (Mandy Patinkin) in order to retrieve his lost blanket.
