Sunday, November 8, 2020, 7:00 p.m.

Free virtual screening and online conversation with series creators and participant Tony Walker

“Give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man.” This Jesuit maxim has been the guiding principle for Michael Apted’s Up series, which has followed the lives of a handful of people every seven years since 1964, and has become an increasingly rich reflection of the British class system. In the ninth installment, which premiered on ITV in June 2019, each of the remaining participants approaches retirement; the project has begun to assume the feel of a retrospective, preoccupied with looking back and taking stock. Up producers Claire Lewis and Cort Kristensen, cinematographer George Jesse Turner, and editor Kim Horton, as well as beloved participant Tony Walker join the Museum’s Assistant Curator of Film Edo Choi to discuss the many questions raised by this latest film in the landmark series.
