Dir. Ridley Scott. U.S., 1982-2007, 117 mins. With Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young. Set in a neon-soaked, futuristic Los Angeles, this dystopian masterpiece of the 1980s follows Harrison Ford’s special operative Rick Deckard on an assignment to track down four rogue replicants—androids virtually indistinguishable from humans being manufactured by the shadowy Tyrell Corporation (the miniature set of which is on permanent display at the Museum of the Moving Image). A film whose stature has only grown with time, Blade Runner is both a visual triumph and a prescient exploration of what it means to be human. Rated: R
