On two consecutive Fridays during First Look, the Museum functions as a laboratory for explorations of the creative process. These day-long sessions will bring together filmmakers, critics, and the general public for work-in-progress screenings and performances, artist talks and discussions.

2:00 p.m.—Work-in-progress screening: I Feel Struck by the Loss of Nameless Things, a new film about cinema, film work, and mortality by Jeff Reichert, Academy Award–winning filmmaker and co-founder and co-editor of Reverse Shot.

4:00 p.m.—Dining Out, Calling In: Yaara Sumeruk leads a conversation with the founding members of Dine with Khayelitsha, the trailblazing South African organization featured in her film If We Say That We Are Friends. Now that COVID-19 has prevented their gathering, does the group see Dine ever resuming? How has the township of Khayelitsha been affected by COVID? And has the pandemic brought South Africans together or divided them further?

5:00 p.m.—The Sacred and the Staged: A Cinematographer’s Reflections on Visual Language in Hybrid Nonfiction. Cinematographer Robert Kolodny considers the practical and theoretical decisions behind shooting Robert Greene’s upcoming film Procession. Featuring behind-the-scenes material and followed by a discussion.

6:00 p.m.- Reverse Shot Happy Hour, hosted by Michael Koresky, Jeff Reichert, and Farihah Zaman
