With filmmaker George Sikharulidze in person

Dir. Keko Chelidze. 2020, 67 mins. In Georgian with English subtitles. Levan is a musician who can’t land a gig, a son who can’t escape an overbearing mother, a middle-aged man who always seems at least half-drunk. Once a successful bass player, he now wanders Tbilisi looking for work while fielding constant calls from his homebound, elderly mother. Keko Chelidze’s documentary is a crystalline portrait of an artist living on the edge of everything, a product of both his own fallibility and an unstable society. Preceded by two short films by emerging director George Sikharulidze. A New Year (2018, 14 mins): When a man decides to follow his faith, his family faces a crisis at a time of year usually filled with hope. And Fatherland (2018, 15 mins): In the small Georgian town of Gori, the birthplace of Stalin, the former Soviet leader’s avid followers gather to commemorate the anniversary of his death, only for strange things to begin occurring.
Tickets: $15 / $11 senior and students / $9 youth (ages 3–17) / discounted for MoMI members ($7–$11). Order online. Please pick up tickets at the Museum's admissions desk upon arrival. All seating is general admission. Review safety protocols before your visit.
