Dir. David M. Massey. 2021, 17 mins. With Noel Arthur, Robert Okumu, Jay Amor, Saskia Corke, Rexel Gumbs, Jr. Oscar-nominated filmmaker David Massey wrote and directed this short film that looks at West African history through a fascinating new lens. Set in 1600, Passage is a journey through the eyes of Gamba, who as the leader of his village, must tend to the needs of his people and especially his family. One morning, as everyone performs their daily tasks, Gamba faces a new challenge that endangers the existence of the entire village community. Massey also directed Last Breeze of Summer, which in 1992 made him the first African American ever nominated in the Live-Action Short Film category of the Academy Awards.
