Momi Education Online

MoMI Education is now offering virtual tours and workshops, and a limited number of onsite tours for groups of 60 or less, on Fridays between 11am-7pm, and Saturdays between 12-5pm. Our interactive exhibitions and media workshops, both onsite and virtua, are great for all ages. We invite you to explore the wonders of cinema, television, and video game history with a guided tour, online media workshop, or virtual field trip through our popular exhibitions. Virtual workshops range from film appreciation and world-building through science fiction to hands-on media-making and puppetry for the screen. Online educational programs are led by museum educators, media artists, filmmakers, and game designers, and each is specifically tailored to the interests of your group. MoMI Education is dedicated to advancing the use of the moving image as a cultural resource for all, through equitable access to the creative technologies. As the first museum in the world to present video game design and new media as an art form, innovation is at the heart of our mission. For nearly 30 years, we have used the moving image—the most resilient and relatable art form of our time—to stimulate the imaginations of all learners. Our online education offerings are designed to spark interest in technology and support thoughtful makers, critics and consumers of the moving image in its numerous forms including film, television, video games, video and digital art, and social media.


ONLINE CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

Registration is now open for schools who like to partner with us to bring a specialized media program to your classroom. Teachers can request a media course focusing on stop motion animation, filmmaking, or an introduction to the moving image, for grades 3-12. Email us at [email protected] for rates and details.


VIRTUAL TOURS & FIELD TRIPS

MoMI is offering virtual tours and fieldtrips led by museum educators, media artists and filmmakers by zoom in English and Spanish. Our annual Teen Film Festival has featured work like MoMI Teen Intern Mame Toure’s 2001 Video Essay (above), which combines media from video games, music videos, and classic films in homage to the iconic film 2001: A Space Odyssey, featured in the video posted above. Teens ages 13-19 are invited to submit short films every year. Categories include, but are not limited to, Narrative, Documentary, Experimental, Animation, and Music Video.
